What can I do to maximise the life of my battery?
Depending on the type of battery in your cordless vacuum there are ways of looking after the battery. The most common types of battery are Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Lead-acid.
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Ni-Cd batteries can suffer from a ‘memory’ and should be charged in the following way to maintain battery life.
Lead Acid
Lead acid batteries are the type found in your car, and can be left on charge when not in use. It is best to discharge the battery as little as possible for maximum battery life.
Lithium Ion
Lithium Ion batteries should be discharged only partially and then charged again rather than running the battery down completely and then charging. Frequent full discharges put strain on the battery and may decrease the life of the battery.
If placed in storage, the battery is best kept at around 40% charge in a cool place. Try to avoid exposing the battery to hot temperatures. Spare batteries should be kept in the fridge, however they should never be frozen.
When purchasing a new battery, take note of the manufacturing dates as old batteries. Try to avoid buying old stock.
Every 30 charges the battery should be discharged completely and then put on charge.
