This website resulted from an approach by Daniel Watters of VAX to the multimedia section of West Coast TAFE. It was agreed that there were mutual benefits in having students develop the new website.
Daniel and Kim Cannon were invited to ‘drive’ the project by initially providing the students with a project brief and subsequently attending the workshops. This enabled them to provide timely suggestions and feedback.
This model provided advantages to VAX that ensured their requirements were met and the students benefited by having realistic industry engagement. The lecturers Shakil Sheikh and Ray Smith, who had been involved in a number of student industry projects in the past, both agreed that this model served as an excellent example of best practice for the industry training of students.
The project allowed the students to enhance and consolidate their skills in a number of key areas such as web development, graphics design, animation, simulation, video and project development.
VAX provided sponsorship for the project which included some remuneration for all participants, prizes for the most valuable contributors and a graduate dinner.
Many thanks to the West Coast TAFE team,
